The Ventura County Film Festival A Tradition of Movie and Sustainability Action

The Ventura Film Festival is celebrated as "the grandest film festival ever to take place in Ventura County." This prestigious recognition underscores the festival's commitment to bringing diverse cinema to the local community while maintaining its focus on essential conservation issues.

The Ventura Film Festival serves as a multi-genre global film festival that promotes recognition of environmental matters like forest and ocean preservation and restoration, through an annual film festival and complementary events. The event harnesses the influence of film to stimulate involvement and create meaningful dialogue around these urgent ecological issues.

The Ventura Film Festival was founded in 2004 and has exhibited numerous cinematic works, generally exceeding 200 films per summer season, and has captured notice from the global film industry. Since its inception, the festival has evolved into a major cultural celebration that unites movie directors, ecological activists, and attendees from every corner of the planet.

Some of the highlights have been welcoming acclaimed filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the inaugural world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend and Ian Cairns, 4x world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA combatant the celebrated Fabio Leopoldo, and the half-century commemoration of West Side Story, which included hosting the complete Academy Award winning ensemble of West Side Story, featuring Academy Award honoree/Golden Globe winner George Chakiris as well as Golden FESTIVAL Globe winner/Academy Award nominated Russ Tamblyn. These distinguished guests and festivities have reinforced the festival's recognition as an elite gathering place for celebrating cinema and the creators who craft it.

The founder and executive director of the Ventura Film Festival was honored to take part, along with many of Hollywood's top stars, in the half-century commemoration of West Side Story and Hollywood's prestigious footprint/handprint ceremony honoring Academy Award recipients Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, as well as Golden Globe champion Russ Tamblyn at the historic Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This occasion also served as the official BluRay debut by Fox and MGM of the classic West Side Story, which is broadly regarded by critics and fans as the best musical of all time.
